2014 yearly round up

2014 has been a busy year in all aspects! Vintique Tree had its first birthday in June, it feels like a dream to me still, but through serious hard work and the support of my family the business is going from strength to strength. Another first business wise was the launch of the new website, I would never had believed a website could take so much time to organise and set up but there is so much satisfaction in seeing the final site up and running and I could never have done it without the support of a very helpful friend of the misters!

The Vintique Tree shop at Whitemoors Antiques Centre near Market Bosworth has also been going great, being there over a year now I am starting to know what my customers like and many of them have become friends!

This year has been filled with new experiences with one of the most enjoyable being an 10 month upholstery course. Along with being fun and at times frustrating! the new skills I have learnt will hopefully help me grow my business. Now I don't have to walk away from all the beautiful but worn chairs I see at the fairs!

Continuing with the year of firsts, it was also our first wedding anniversary in June, I can't believe that we are no longer newly weds. We celebrated in our favourite country, Mallorca. The wedding feels like it was last month not over a year ago now!

Finally the most scary and exciting part of 2014 is that we sold our house! Since the summer we have been slowly packing our lives into boxes, we are moving further into the countryside.

Our current village is semi rural and is famed locally for its long tradition in horse and hounds. I must admit I will miss the sight of the sea of hundreds of beagles running down the street, but the sense of space at the new place is just lovely.

The mister is super excited about having a bigger garden where he can attempt to grow all sorts of veggies and fruits come the spring and for me the redecoration and hunt for the the perfect pieces for our new home is something to look forward to in the new year!

The only one who I am worried about for the big move is George, our British blue short hair cat. He does get nervy from time to time, especially when change occurs! Although I have been pleased with his behaviour so far, the boxes haven't phased him, he as seen it more of a game than anything. I really can't wait to see his reaction in a new environment, but I am sure once he works out he can sunbathe in the spring sunshine in the conservatory he will be grinning like the Cheshire cat!

Anyway I hope you all have had a great 2014 and thanks to all my lovely customers who have helped make my dream a reality, here is to a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2015!

Seasons Greetings Everyone!

Blood, sweat, tears and upholstery...

So in early January I began my very first lesson in traditional upholstery.  It is always something I have dreamed of doing, especially when I see an unloved chair crying out for love, so I took the plunge and booked a 10 month course. So far I have learnt that there is A LOT more to it than just stapling fabric on, and the traditional method is wonderfully crafty and technical and folding corners of fabric on to the frame almost had me in tears...but I did it, next week is...stitch and stuff chair omg!!!

The Sunshine is out and the Vintique Tree Shop is open!

So it has been incredibly 9 months today since I lost my voice way back in October, it feels like 9 years!! In a bid not to think about it, and focus on the positives, the sun has been shining and we moved into our new shop in Whitmoors Antiques and Craft Centre in Warwickshire today.

It is exciting to have my stock on display in such a lovely place! More interesting news is that the BBC2 Antiques Roadtrip is visiting the centre tomorrow!

Thought I would share some pictures....

The first sale was this pretty green chair...

I love the penguins in the cabinet!

Weddings, crafting and showing things!

Hello everyone! My post is a little later than expected for one reason or another but here is a round up on a very busy weekend!

On Saturday my maid of honour surprised me with a trip to the National Wedding Show and an even better surprise was that she invited two of my other friends who I hadn't seen in ages...cue girly screaming!

It is funny isn't it, how with some friends, it doesn't matter how much time has past you still get on like you saw each other yesterday!

Then to work, I attended a local wedding fair with mum as my spokesperson as I am still voiceless! where we set up stall displaying a few of our lovely bits and bobs of vintage crockery, it is so hard to pick out a few pieces, I always want to take everything, including the bike and the milk churn!!!

My nan and grandpa on their wedding day, took them along with me to the fair for luck! Everyone commented on how lovely they looked, my nan was thrilled!

Silly old me forgot to take the camera with me so images are off my phone! doh! All well they are not too bad I hope! This was the Vintique Tree stand in all its glory!

My hand made ring book turned out to be of most interest to many people, It is made out of vintage books, a much better keep sake than a pillow you dont know what to do with! They will be appearing on www.vintiquetree.co.uk  in the near future!

I am also making some vintage fabric covered guest books which will be personalised to each wedding, to match themes, names and dates etc!

Keep posted, I will be showing you both the ring and guest book in a blog soon!
Hope everyone is having a good week! xxx

Vintique Tree the sapling

Hello! welcome to Vintique Tree's first official blog post.

Vintique Tree is a new project of mine and I want to share my experiences, adventures and vintage finds with you.

So a bit about me? Well I am Laura, the face behind Vintique Tree. After years of seeking out vintage goodies I decided that I am going to take the step from passionate interest into a lifestyle.

I live in leicestershire with my fiancee Paul and our british blue cat, George. Currently we are in the process of preparing for our wedding (vintage themed, naturally) in June of this year.

Come along with me as I learn what the successes and pitfalls are of setting up your own business, training in upholstery, planning a wedding and trying to control a overexcited grey cat every time you produce a packet of salt and vingar crisps.
